We begin this month’s issue with a letter from SoCal Chapter President, Nick Juarez, wherein Nick discusses the value of becoming a CMC.  In addition, National is offering a discounted CMC application fee valid until July 31st.  See more information on this following Nick’s letter.

By now, the votes are in electing our upcoming Board Members – which will be announced in the June Newsletter.  This month’s “Get To Know…” interview is with IMC SoCal member and senior advisor in organizational development and human relations, Jay Marks.

IMC SoCal continues to offer the educational component of its overall mission via the LAX and OC breakfast meetings as well as quarterly evening meetings and presentations. Letter From Nick Juarez, IMC SoCal Chapter President

The Institute of Management Consultants a gateway to what is best in the practice of Management Consulting.

In the very long ago, before there were management consultants, in many places people who had special skills formed guilds to provide a certain amount of training and oversight for those who practice within their trade, like carpenters, weavers, shoemakers, etc.  In time, these guilds grew great in importance and influence and some of them are still around. The modern day guilds now are made up of physicians, accountants, lawyers, barbers, beauticians and many more, and the oversight and regulations are provided by the various state governments. We management consultants are an independent lot and by and large in the United States we have not wanted the government telling us how to conduct our business or who should be in our business. We have taken it upon ourselves, through the Institute of Management Consultants, to provide certification, ascribe to a code of ethics, provide education seminars on various aspects of the profession of management consulting and many more activities that are intended to assist individuals in other ways. IMC SoCal Member News

Marsha D. Lewin, CMC, FIMC, CCP, MBA,MSCS

Marsha, our first IMC SOCAL Lifetime Achievement Award winner and FIMC, was the winner of this month’s photo contest, thus proving that retirement provides more opportunity to engage in identifying our picture’s location!

She was editorial director of the Journal of Management Consulting, has been active in the consulting professional associations since 1977, has held far too many national and local offices, and loves the profession and her colleagues in it.  She created a million dollar practice that specialized in innovative information systems strategies and implementation for private and public sector clients over more than 40 years.

Marsha holds a variety of degrees, certifications, and awards, and has authored four books, one of which (The Overnight Consultant) was a Book of the Month Club Main selection in its Money Books Division.  She wrote and spoke extensively on project management and effective management consulting topics. She continues to mentor management consultants, and can be reached at marsha@marshalewin.com.
